How to determine the quality of biomass pellet fuel?

The quality of biomass pellet fuel can be assessed primarily from the following aspects:

Moisture Content
The moisture content of domestic biomass pellets is typically around 15%. This can be tested using a microwave oven and an electronic scale. First, weigh a biomass pellet, then heat it in a microwave oven for a period of time, and then weigh it again. When the weight reduction approaches zero, it indicates that the moisture content is very low. This allows for an estimation of the weight of water contained in the biomass pellet and its own weight.

Calorific Value Comparison
The cost-effectiveness of biomass pellets can be compared based on their calorific value; the higher the calorific value, the better the quality.

Ash Content
The lower the ash content of biomass pellet fuel, the better. The ash content can be determined by comparing the weight before and after combustion. Weigh the pellet before combustion, and then weigh the ash after combustion; the difference between the two is the ash content.

Appearance and Hardness
Generally, biomass pellets with less powder and a smooth surface are of better quality. Biomass pellets with high moisture content are prone to cracking on the surface. Biomass pellets with high hardness have higher density and are more durable during combustion.

Testing Agency Certification
If more specific information or knowledge of the raw materials is needed, the pellets can be sent to a testing agency for analysis.
